Over the past two years, Transplanting Traditions and our partner farmers have been working to formalize the business and marketing support services that Transplanting Traditions provides to the farmers that are in our network through the development of a Farmer Collective. The goal is to increase the sustainability of marketing and business support for farmers' businesses into the future and now during a time when the non-profit sector faces great instability.
The Farmer Collective provides market access for refugee and immigrant farmers through administering a CSA program, wholesale sales and Share-a-Share. In 2026, the Farmer Collective will officially launch, as a program managed by Transplanting Traditions, but under an independent name Seeds of Migration Farming Collective (SOM).
The Seeds of Migration Farming Collective connects customers directly with refugee- and immigrant–owned farms, offering CSA shares that include a mix of familiar seasonal vegetables and Southeast Asian vegetables traditionally grown in Burma. By purchasing through the Collective, you support independent farm businesses while bringing home fresh produce grown right here in the Piedmont of North Carolina. To join the CSA in 2026, please use this website to choose from the different farm businesses and different CSA pick up locations in Orange, Durham, Chatham and Wake counties.

What is the Seeds of Migration Farming Collective?
The Seeds of Migration Farming Collective is a collective of small scale sustainable farm businesses run by women who are originally from Burma coming to the U.S. as refugees. Each farm business is a member of the Seeds of Migration Farming Collective and although they each manage their own distinct farm businesses and grow food for their own individual customers, they all sell through a collective multi-farm CSA, which is managed by Transplanting Traditions Community Farm and includes services such as accounting, customer service and the technical logistics of getting CSA boxes from the farm to the customer. Selling through a multi-farm CSA allows for streamlining of business management and overhead costs, crucial in the small farm business industry.
